Gefachella is to be supported by local businesses Isle of Man Enterprises, Bridge Angel Network and the Isle of Man Government’s Department for Enterprise.
‘Gefachella’ is the Island’s first start-up specific business festival. The festival will be held on Friday, April 20th from 14:00 ‘til midnight at Unit 1A, Village Walk, Onchan and promises to be the perfect platform for budding entrepreneurs and start-up businesses to network, learn and share knowledge, with a little bit (scrap that…A LOT) of party thrown in for good measure 💃🏼
The event will be sponsored by local businesses; Isle of Man Enterprises, Bridge Angel Network and the Isle of Man Government’s Department for Enterprise. The event is also being supported by the Cabinet Office’s ‘Year of Our Island’ scheme.
Gef the Mongoose Founder Kate Hegarty said; “We are delighted to be working with a team of progressive brands and businesses to launch our first peer-to-peer business festival. We have support from both public and private organisations, who share our passion for supporting entrepreneurialism and new business growth on our fair Island.
The official partners for our inaugural Gefachella event are Bridge Angel Network, Isle of Man Department for Enterprise & Isle of Man Enterprises.”
Carol Glover, Head of Projects for Isle of Man Enterprises has supported Gefachella since the idea was conceived;
“We’re supporting ‘Gefachella’ by providing a venue for start-ups, founders and entrepreneurs to share their experiences of the Island as a special place to live and work.
Village Walk is an older shopping centre in Onchan, that has recently undergone a renaissance in terms of vitality and viability, with a varied range of 35 independent owned businesses now calling it home.
This is not a “one off”, it is the start of a movement to drive a new wave of optimism, entrepreneurial spirit, economic development and artisan & craft quality of life drivers, especially for the young.
It is a perfect event to celebrate 2018 Year of Our Island – a Special Place to Live and Work, and will leave a legacy as the year that being a “Founder” became a key driver of Economic and Social development on the Island.’
Bridge Angel Network is a not-for-profit business accelerator and investment network. They’re on a mission to support Isle of Man start-ups and high growth businesses by bridging the gaps between entrepreneurial talent and the crucial support start-ups need, in order to reach their full potential and thrive in a global market.
Simon Nicholas and Katie Nicholson from Bridge Angel Network said of the event;
“We are keen to support any efforts to instil an entrepreneurial culture in the Isle of Man – this is, in part, a key reason for why Bridge was formed. It is vital that as part of our Island’s wider macro strategy that the Island engages with entrepreneurs of all shapes and sizes.
To date I think the Island has been relatively successful in engaging and attracting start-ups from the UK via various initiatives, including ISLEXPO and the EDS.
We’re now keen to engage with smaller scale start-ups and lesser known entrepreneurs currently on the Island. In order to ensure a truly embedded entrepreneurial culture, we need engagement from all groups within the start-up community and for this reason, Bridge is happy to support Gefachella, which promises to attract a different and important start up audience.”
Laurence Skelly MHK, Minister for Enterprise said;
“We’re pleased to see so many new businesses accessing DFE support through the Enterprise Support schemes. The Department has seen a record number of contracts signed over the past year and many of the businesses featured at Gefachella have received support from our department. Events such as Gefachella help to highlight the strong entrepreneurial spirit on the Island, adding value to the local community and the Island’s economy.”
Gefachella will run Friday April 20th from 14:00 ‘til 23:45 at Unit 1A, Village Walk, Onchan. Tickets are priced at £15 and include two tacos from new local business ‘La Costeña’ and a ‘Secret Pizza Bloody Mary’ from Douglas based ‘lewislewis’.
