Do you like laughter? Do you like guys? And dolls? How about dolls that are guys? Then do 9 Across Comedy have the night for you! And also you may need therapy. YOU BLOODY WEIRDO. Put the dolls down.
After the roaring – yes ROARING! Like a fire of mirth! – success of her last comedy event, Rhian Evans via her ‘9 Across Comedy’ company has a laugh-tacular sequel up her sleeve. One that will have you laughing so hard you may pulverise into a fine powder.
On Friday 8 February, Guys & Dolls will once again be the venue for a comedy night featuring the following bards of merriment:
Harriet Dyer – organiser of Barking Tales Comedy Night and recently voted best comedy club in Manchester. Harriet smashed it last time round and will also be the evening’s Compere.
Tony Cowards – also known as the punasaurus and said to be one of the best joke writers on the circuit.
Matthew Baylis – likened to Jack Dee and gigged with the likes of Milton Jones and Kevin Bridges.
Kevin Dewsbury – supported Michael McIntyre and said to be the most understated stand up on the comedy circuit.
You lucky lucky swine.
The Island comfortably hosts headline comedy acts with great aplomb and has done for some time. What Rhian is hoping for is to shine a spotlight on the plethora of talented underground UK comedians. She says – “I hope this will then encourage Manx stand up comics to come out of the woodwork. I’m positive the talent is out there”. The hope then is to expand and make these comedy nights a more regular fixture in our local entertainment calendar.
For a mere £12 per ticket – which is basically the price of half a pint these days – you’ll witness top drawer UK comedians in a grungey, low-key environment. What’s not to love? There was a turn out of 90 joyous souls last time, all of which laughed themselves into a state so heightened they reached a higher plane of consciousness. True story.
As Rhian says “This would probably make for an excellent early Valentines Day present. You can spend an evening tipsily laughing with your significant other or you can laugh to forget how alone you are. It’s a win-win.
And don’t be making excuses about the cold or how you’re feeling unwell. Laughter is scientifically proven to be the best medicine. For any ailment. Look it up!
For tickets email, [email protected], contact the 9 Across Comedy Facebook page or buy them on the door. The show kicks off at 8 pm but doors will be open from 7 pm.
