Spring – Giant’s Causeway in Northern Ireland
The best thing about spring is that you’ve got three bank holiday weekends to choose from. You’d be crazy not to escape the rock for at least one of them!
We suggest a trip to see the mysterious Giant’s Causeway in Northern Island.
Instagram the World Heritage Site to your heart’s content and learn the legend of Finn McCool.
And if you’re up for being active, The Giant’s Causeway Clifftop Experience is a fantastic five-mile hike from the ruin of Dunseverick Castle – providing some of the best cliff-top views in all of Europe!
We suggest travelling to Belfast with the Isle of Man Steam Packet Company so that you have enough room to bring walking boots, coats and any other outdoorsy equipment needed to make the most of your trip. Spring is the ideal time with the return of seasonal sailings to Ireland, plus once you berth in Belfast port, it’s just an hour’s drive away.
Spring – Dublin
A city deeply rooted in their incredible history, culture and of course, booze. The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s sailings to Dublin start in April, just in time to see St Stephens green blooming with Spring Flowers and Cherry Blossoms.
And, because the city is located right on the East Coast, day trips and excursions to beautiful places like Phoenix Park are only a short drive away.
Party like the Irish at the Temple Bar, take a photo with The Spire of Dublin, walk over Ha’penny Bridge and find your very own Bambi to get a selfie within Phoenix Park.
Summer – Ullswater in Lake District
The Lake District is an ideal getaway for people who enjoy a balance of activity and relaxation and is a great summer holiday destination. You’ll be so spoilt for choice for places to visit, things to see and mountains to climb, that you probably won’t know what to do first!
The Lakes are Instagrammable from every angle and staying somewhere like the Inn on the Lake will give you stunning views of Lake Ullswater – a place so beautiful that it’s a popular wedding destination. Start dropping hints, ladies!
It takes just over an hour to reach the Lake District from Heysham. Bringing the car gives you the freedom to explore the nearby towns and villages without having to navigate the bus or train timetables!
Summer – Whitby, North Yorkshire
Their beaches aren’t as famous as their brews, but in our opinion…they are far more aesthetic.
These iconic brightly coloured beach huts call West Cliffe beach home, the sandy beach is beautiful and is just 3 hours’ drive from Liverpool.
While in Whitby, check out the Abbey and treat yourself to some fish and chips.
Autumn – Snowdonia National Park
I know we’ve not yet had Summer, but this picture has us pining for Autumn already!
Snowdonia National Park is vast and as such makes a great longer break. It’s only an hour and a half in the car from Liverpool, so you can easily load up for a week (or more) of fun exploring the beautiful national park and surrounding attractions.
There’s something for couples and families; welly walks, mountain bike trails, and the beautiful Portmeirion Village…
Portmeirion is rumoured to be the most Instagram worthy village in the UK (jackpot!)
The private village was designed by Sir Clough Williams-Ellis in the early 20th century. The village featured bright Riviera-inspired houses, ornamental gardens and Central Piazza.
Winter – Glencoe, Scotland
Glencoe was the spectacular backdrop to Bond film, Skyfall. Although it’s unlikely you’ll get Daniel Craig on your feed, you will be treated to some stunning snow-capped mountains.
It’s a 4-hour drive from Heysham but is worth every minute as the drive alone is beautiful. Once you make it up to Glencoe, a wealth of winter fun and photography opportunities await.
The car will come in handy as you can fill it with your salopettes and thermals ready to enjoy the snow. Scotland’s longest established skiing spot is just down the road at Glencoe Mountain Resort.
Winter – Leeds
Crack your Christmas shopping done at one of the most established German Christmas Markets in the UK. Christkindelmarkt in Leeds has traditional wooden stalls, festive greenery, a Christmas carousel ride and twinkling colourful lights to get you into the festive spirit.
With a continental vibe, it forms an integral part of the city’s annual events programme. Browse over 40 wooden chalet stalls from authentic German traders and get your fix of as much bratwurst, goulash, schnitzel and stollen as you like.
In the evening head to Tattu, the picture above speaks for itself. You can gram to your heart’s content whilst enjoying delicious dim sum and warmth!
The drive takes approximately 1 hour 35 from Heysham.
The Isle of Man Steam Packet Company’s 2019 timetable is now online and with more than 900,000 offer seats available throughout the year, why not start planning your next trip off the rock today!
